Toyota claims having controlled 70% market share of vans in the commercial vehicle segment for the period of January-August 2014. Toyota Hiace, the leading product in this segment, is sold at 681 units, up by 5.3% compared to the same period last year, which reached 645 units.
According to Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Rahmat Samulo, the sales of Hiace in September are also higher then August. No less than 259 units of Hiace were sold in August. The growing market of Hiace makes TAM projecting the sales till the end of 2014 will reach about 1,000 units.
Samulo also said that since it was launched in Indonesia in 2012, the demands for Hiace products will continue to increase. Moreover, this vehicle has a passenger capacity of up to 16 people and offers more spacious cabin. Currently Hiace has attracted travel and tourism entrepreneurs.
“The market of Hiace generally can be divided into three sectors, namely the inter-city transport companies, pick up transport companies houses, as well as tourism services especially in the tourist areas. They are the main users of Hiace,” said Samulo, in Jakarta, on Thursday (9/10).
He said the commercial vehicle market continues to increase. Out of the sales of all vehicles reaching at 1.2 million units in 2013, 30% are contributed by the commercial vehicle. The commercial vehicles like Hiace van, the total sales in one year is around 1100-1200 units. The government’s policy to encourage the use of public transports will bring a positive impact to the market of the commercial vehicles, especially in the class like Hiace. (*)
