Targeting 5.6% Economy Growth in 2018, Jokowi: Raise Investments and Exports

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has targeted Indonesia’s economy growth at 5.6% in 2018. The target is higher than this year’s target of 5.1%. To achieve the targeting Growth, Jokowi has a special strategy.

According to Jokowi, there are two measures to be undertaken by the government to achieve the target of economic growth, by increasing the investments and raising the value of Indonesia’s exports.

“Actually, there are only two measures as the most important thing for the growth right now, the first is increasing the exports and the second is increasing the investments,” said Jokowi at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (4/4).

Increasing the value and the volume of exports, according Jokowi, was not easy to do. It would need hard work from the government. “Raising the exports of goods is not easy because the market is too sluggish,” he said.

Furthermore, Jokowi added that in order to boost the economic growth, the investments in Indonesia need to be pushed. The existing regulations must be trimmed by the government in order to provide certainty for the investors. “I say no more new regulation, no more,” he concluded.
