President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that with God’s willing (Insha’ Allah) later in the end of 2018 Jakarta – Semarang, Semarang – Solo, Solo – Surabaya toll roads will be connected. Next on the eastward, Surabaya – Banyuwangi will be completed in 2019.
“From end to end of Java will be linked,” said President Jokowi after visiting the construction site of Bawen – Salatiga toll road in Bawen District, Semarang Regency, Central Java, on Saturday (4/8) afternoon.
The toll road of Bawen – Salatiga, according to the president, is a part of the highway connecting Jakarta to Semarang, Semarang – Solo, Solo – Surabaya, Surabaya – Banyuwangi.
“The segment of Bawen – Salatiga had been stalled for years due to land acquisition problems,” said the president.
President Jokowi also expressed his gratitude after noting that 97 to 99 percent of the land has been acquired.
According to the president, there were various problems encountered in the construction of the highway, for example in the segment of Bawen – Salatiga, in Tuntang, the most serious problem was the hills that require cutting, then how and where to move the soil.
“Like I said earlier, it is nearly 2 million cubic meters of soil to be moved. Some have been moved, but there are still 140,000 cubic meters left, which have to be done,” said President Jokowi.
Amid the drizzle, the local people were very enthusiastic to welcome the president who was accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo.
On the way to the next location of his visit, President Jokowi made time to go down to greet the local residents and handed out books.
During the visit, President Joko Widodo was accompanied by Secretary of State Pratikno, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.
