For Logistics Center, Kertajati to Imitate Alibaba

JAKARTA, – The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs wants to make the logistic center at Kertajati Airport like the one owned by Alibaba.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the Kertajati Airport will be completed gradually with a bonded logistics center and become an aerocity. Luhut said he hoped Kertajati can be like Alibaba because it will make the cost of logistics more efficient.

“Alibaba creates a concept that lowers the cost, so we can make it that way,” said Luhut.

Alibaba Group is a giant e-commerce company based in China, owned by businessman Jack Ma.

Kertajati Airport is one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) which will become one of the logistics centers in Indonesia. The plan is that the government will build a hub for cargo shelter at this international airport.

Kertajati is located in Majalengka, West Java, very close to Port Patimban which is designed to be the port for automotive exports and imports.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the government still has land banks for business expansion in the region.

He also said that the government has decided that the Kertajati Airport will be jointly operated by PT West Java International Airport (BIJB) with 51 percent shares and PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) with 49 percent shares.

Currently, the Transportation Ministry is working on the apron extension for aircraft shelter. The runway is also extended from 3,000 meters to 3,300 meters.

The airport will also be used for a hajj embarkation center in West Java to reduce the high traffics of hajj pilgrimage in Jakarta. (BNS/TPP)
